Review: The Lying Kind - Alison James

Review: The Lying Kind - Book #1 Detective Rachel Prince Series - Alison James - February 2018 I was scrolling through my kindle and was in the mood for a mystery read and the title "The Missing Girl" jumped out at me. This particular book after doing research on Goodreads had three different titles - The Missing Girl, The Lying Kind and Lola are Missing. The book starts off with Rachel and her partner Mark being handed a cold case, a young girl Lola Harper disappeared and all leads have gone ice cold. Her father has also disappeared without a trace. Rachel and Mark go and interview the mother and it seems that all cases point to a nasty custody battle and that Gavin and his daughter have swanned off somewhere. As the book goes along though and Rachel and Mark interview friends, family, acquaintances things start not adding up and it looks more like the mother knows more than she is letting on. Near the middle of the case, Rachel is alerted to an anonymous poster called Trut...

Review: The Girl who Reads on the Metro - Christine Feret-Fleury

Review: The Girl who Reads on the Metro - Christine Feret-Fleury - October 2019 After four DNF's I needed a book to read as nothing seemed to be keeping my attention. The title of this book attracted me to it. I loved the title as I am the type of girl who you would find reading on public transport. The book is set in France where we meet Juliette whom catches the Metro every morning to work and on her way observes people and what they are reading and she likes to make stories up about the people she sees in accordance to the books they are reading from the old woman reading a cookbook - she was a famous chef when she was younger. Juliette is in a dead-end job working as a real estate agent in a small company. On her way to work one morning, she spots a little girl running about and she follows her to a second-hand bookshop. It is in the bookshop, she meets the owner Soliman and his daughter Zadie and learns about the art of being a "passuer". Passing books onto stranger...

Review: King of Hyde Park - Lisa Watson

Review: King of Hyde Park - Book #8 Kings of the Castle Series - Lisa Watson - December 2019 Readers of my blog will know that I have been enjoying the Kings of the Castle series as I find this brotherhood and the main characters genuinely nice guys despite their dangerous backgrounds. King of Hyde Park takes us into Dro aka Alejandro's life. Alejandro was given the role of King of Hyde Park from Khali and his specialty is fixing everything. He is the "fixer" of the group and the go-to for getting people out of crazy jams. He is also fiercely loyal to his family including his crazy uncle Santiago - though he will do the favor for his mother this is the last time as things are getting more and more dangerous as he finds himself in bed with the enemy.  Our female character is Lola, she is a bit like the female version of Dro but her specialty is more the PR side of things. Lola works for Alastair Mayhew who has a long-standing grudge with Dro's father and family. Dro i...
